They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I believe this to be true, as everyone has a unique lens through which they view the world. What is beautiful to one person may not be to another, and I’m not just talking about what you see. There is beauty in what you feel, what you smell, taste and touch. It is a full sensory experience. For example, if you are a coffee lover, it’s not just the taste that you love. It’s the smell as soon as you open the coffee, it’s in the brewing and how the smell changes with it. It’s in the mixing of the milk if you have any, and then finally, the flavour as it swirls around your mouth igniting your taste buds. It can be a solo affair or shared with friends. It’s experiential!
The beauty I really want to talk about is what you see, observe, and emotionally experience in your daily lives and how it can interconnect with your view of yourself. I will share and break down a few different scenarios so that you can get the gist of what I mean.
Scenario 1: You see a parent (or both) holding hands whilst walking with a child. The child is kicking leaves or jumping in a small puddle. It can raise emotions and thoughts of family, love, affection, sharing, caring, fun, inner child, spontaneity and enjoying the simple things.
Scenario 2: You go for a walk out in nature and see so much beauty around you, but one flower stands out. You look at the flower and observe the colours, the patterns, the stem, the smell. It can raise emotions of love, growth, freshness, cycles of life, the amazingness and uniqueness of nature and Mother Earth.
Scenario 3: You are at a supermarket, and on your way out, you observe a woman carrying a bag of groceries. The bag breaks, and her groceries fall to the ground. A man who is nearby helps her collect some items off the floor and then runs to his car to get a spare shopping bag for her. The woman thanks him; they have a brief conversation and share a laugh. This can raise emotions
and thoughts of kindness, unity, love for your fellow human beings, communication, joy, human connection and generosity.
By looking for and focusing on the beauty in all things and in the interactions around you, you are being more present. You also see and give less energy to the negative thoughts and experiences in your day because your focus has been redirected. You can look back on your day and experience a more relaxed, loving, and balanced emotional state.
The key is to be aware of the emotions that arose at the moments you observed and witnessed the different scenarios above and then look for them in yourself. You can then write or say to yourself, using the words I am, I have, or I see, and change the words accordingly:
Scenario 1: I see myself with my loving family. I love and care for them. I am spontaneous, and this allows me to share many wonderful moments with them. I see myself sharing the simple things in life with them, enjoying silly jokes and laughter. I see my relationships grow with love and affection.
Scenario 2: I see myself and the beauty I have within. I am of love and grow constantly through my own cycles in life. I see my uniqueness and my fresh perspectives and ideas in my conversations and different situations. I see myself approaching loved ones with softness in my heart and my bright personality. I love Mother Earth and feel amazing when I am in her presence. I become one with Her, just as the flower is.
Scenario 3: I see myself as a kindhearted soul with an immense love for humanity. I see myself communicating freely and having meaningful human connections. I am grateful to have friends where communications are deep, and unity is strong. I see my generous heart and joyful soul reach out to people, bringing laughter and positive interactions to all I come in contact with.
These are just 3 scenarios. The same approach can be applied to anything that makes you feel good. This is a powerful daily tool and also serves as a manifesting exercise. It focuses on all the good that is in you. You can also visualize the things that may not be currently present and choose what you would like for your future.
This is much more than just a daily exercise. You see, when you look at yourself through the beauty that is in the world and how that beauty resides in you, you become one with humanity and the universe. You are expressing self-love to yourself, and the frequency of “love” is always a healing energy.
So in reality, you are raising your awareness by being present, focusing on the beauty in your day and connecting to yourself. You see the love and beauty in others, in the world and in yourself, and you own it! This allows for deep insight, new realisations, and healing to take place. And as you read these last few words, I would like to honour you and all the beauty around you that reflects what is in your soul. May you do the same and always see yourself through the lens of love.
