Peace, harmony, and balance. These are three things that many people worldwide strive to achieve. The more I ponder these words, their meanings, and how they affect each individual, it is very clear that they are indeed separate from one another. But in saying that, one can definitely help lead you to achieve another. And having one of these is not an automatic pass to having all three, even if they do interlink at times.
Balance is what I like to call a “neutral” state. It is not a state of lack nor is it a state of excess, it is the state of equality. Finding balance does not come in doing all things in equal parts. You may agree that when you try and balance work, family, activities, hobbies and a social life, your life can actually become busier or even more complicated. This can create more stress, feelings of exhaustion and losing the joy in the things you used to like doing. The work/life balance for some may be 70/30, and 60/40 or even 40/60 for others. Therefore, everyone’s balance will be different and unique.
The most important factor about creating balance in your life is determining what is important to YOU. Then you can put the time and energy into those things that you choose, and arranging your life accordingly. One thing is certain: when you have balance, it will always simplify your life.
There is also the goal of maintaining balance. Trying to maintain balance can be limiting in itself, and may keep you looking for “good” experiences. Learning and growing is always a good experience, but they may come disguised as a bad experience or uncomfortable situation. This is where awareness and going with the flow allows for adaptability. This can help you to find peace, harmony, and balance with the situation at hand.
Your choices for your well-being and lifestyle also play a part in this whole scenario. I will use food choices and exercise as examples.
- You decide to make a commitment to exercise every day of the week for one hour.
- You make dietary changes and become a vegan. Either of these two choices if beneficial for your health. So, it seems the obvious choice would be to commit and stick to your plan, right?
Well, let’s look at it this way. If your wellbeing and happiness is contingent upon a framework that you have designed for yourself, then you really have not become flexible. You could be rather rigid. You may feel that you are balanced, but this does not necessarily bring harmony. Why? Well, the moment you go out of that framework, you may experience guilt, anger, or annoyance because you did not achieve what was in your framework. And those emotions are not in harmony with what you consider to be balance.
It is wonderful to commit to something, but it is also important to allow flexibility for unexpected events, invitations, and spontaneity. This will help with emotional balance, allowing balance and harmony to work together. And by doing this you may also bring peace into the experience. And what is peace? Peace is a state of quiet or calm that is not disturbed by anything at all. It is when people are able to resolve inner and outer conflicts without violence, and can work together to improve the quality of their lives. Peace embraces respect, understanding, compassion, tolerance, love, living in the present, living in joy, and being the change you wish to see in the world. As emotional beings, this can be quite hard to achieve. But the clearer you get on balance and harmony, the more time you can spend in a state of peace.
Let’s also consider a dramatic change that has affected humanity. People have become accustomed or addicted to being entertained constantly. People have forgotten how to just be. This is true harmony, peace, and balance. It is also important for you to integrate your environmental factors into your inner being. For example, commuting to work on a train or in traffic for an hour, or being in a busy shopping centre on your lunchbreak. The key is not to reject these experiences as they will have a direct effect on your inner experience and reality.
Learn to accept these experiences for what they are, in their simplicity: nothing more, nothing less.
Being in peace, balance, and harmony means living one day at a time and enjoying one moment at a time. It is being totally present in what you are doing, and doing the things that are important to you. It is letting go of control and allowing flexibility and adaptability to become a part of you so that you can learn, grow, and go with the flow of your life experiences. There are many different factors, challenges, and obstacles that you may encounter before you even start or try to integrate any of the above.
Seeking professional help and spiritual guidance and having healing sessions can support and empower you in the transition. They can help to heal old wounds, resolve inner conflict and overcome life’s obstacles. They can also help you to plan and prioritise which obstacles or blockages need to be addressed first to suit your individual needs and situation. Some of you may have to achieve some inner balance, harmony, and peace before attempting to change your outer world.
Others may have to change the outer world to then address the inner landscape. And there are others that will go back and forth between the two. Trust your instincts and go with the flow. lf through the lens of love.
