Have you ever had that feeling in your gut that is telling you to do something or avoid something? Or felt a nudge of some sort to take a course of action in regard to a person or situation? I am sure you all have. This is simply called your ‘intuition’. Sometimes you may not have any awareness around it at the time it occurs and may think it’s just you and your thoughts.
What is intuition? The short answer is, and how many would describe it as, a sixth sense or a knowing. A knowing without reasoning or analysis. It is the voice of your heart and soul and can be described as your inner teacher guiding and communicating with you in subtle ways. It is that subtle feeling you get in the pit of your stomach. Yes, it is almost always the subtlest of feelings that you may only remember in hindsight.
So how does your intuition work? Well, basically in a similar sense to the opening questions in the introduction. Many times, you just get this gut feeling, urge, or inner voice telling you to do something without really knowing why. For example, you may be driving somewhere and just get an urge to change your usual route to that certain destination. Only to later find out that there was a roadblock or accident. The same can happen when you are about to go somewhere and have an inexplicable, uncomfortable feeling about going. It can happen around any area of your life, such as work, relationships, with people, education, or courses; buying property etc. The list is endless!
Intuition is usually that first initial feeling that you get. You know, the one that lasts a second or two before your thoughts kick in and your mind takes over. The one that is usually ignored, before we learn the importance of it. If that is you, do not feel bad.
Everyone has been there a thousand times. Even those that have studied in these areas and are super connected to it can still miss the mark at times. Learning to follow these intuitive cues without question takes work and total trust. Many factors can block you from listening to your intuition. Life can get busy, you go through personal challenges, mental illness, and if you have a family, but not exclusive to, you can get to a point of being on auto pilot and just go, go, go. So, you are not really in tune and listening to the subtle hints you get.
Through my personal experiences and those of the majority of my clients, self-doubt, questioning yourself, lack of trust, fear, and not doing anything for your own personal development, plays a massive role in a person not connecting to and trusting their gut instinct. The key factor here being that you may not trust yourself enough to listen to your intuition and very possibly, even fear the outcome of certain situations if you do. This is not living your authentic self and you can often feel isolated and disconnected. Having awareness around what blocks you from feeling into or listening to your intuition Is important. By being aware you will be able to reflect and see clearly where you ignored that gut feeling and how perhaps, in many circumstances, you or the outcome ended up worse than if you had listened to it. Or worse still, you may never know because you did not take the action that your intuition was telling you to at the time. This is the beginning of connecting to your intuitive self through awareness. It can then open the door for opportunities of growth in this area, while at the same time gaining an understanding of why you may not be so connected. Through this process you may discover that there are many reasons why you lack that internal connection. Many experiences, relationships and situations may be brought to the forefront for your own growth, that may lead you to do some deep inner work and healing. And that in itself is connecting to your internal compass of what you need for your own evolution.
There is a real importance to healing the issues that you become aware of. Why? Well, for one it helps you shift and clear your energy field. You understand why things have happened and played out in a particular way, so your perspective changes and you can begin to let go of them. This allows you to integrate the lessons of those situations/relationships/issues, which leads to a clearer connection to yourself. You begin to feel more empowered and confident, therefore, your trust in yourself grows.
With each healing you become more aligned and are able to listen, strengthen, and trust your intuition with the knowledge that it is guiding you for your highest good.
The other side of the spectrum is people who have activated their intuition. They understand themselves more and have opened up a world of awareness and creativity. But most importantly they are more connected to themselves, others, and the world around them, both physically and spiritually. Your intuition is your internal compass. It is not something to be feared. It is there to guide you. Practising stillness and feeling into it is a great way of building a connection to it.
Let your gut speak to you, not your mind. Learn its language, because It is you speaking to yourself, just in a different way. It bypasses the mind and is built on trust.
With time your gut feelings will become words, its own unique language guiding you on your path, in all areas of your life. It will become an expanded awareness, therefore, an expansion of yourself. It is your inner GPS guiding and communicating with you to take the necessary steps and actions for your own learning, growth, success, abundance, and evolution. And even though we can still fear it at times, it can become your most treasured, loyal, honest, and trusted friend…. If you let it.
We are all born intuitive beings with the power to learn, awaken, develop, and build awareness around our own intuition and expansion of it. Let your intuition guide you and lead the way.
