Spiritual awakenings are not for the faint-hearted. They can be messy and exhilarating simultaneously and happen spontaneously and in many different ways. One of the main triggers is losing someone we love through death. Suddenly, our loved one is no longer with us physically; however, we have no idea where they are, or even if they are ‘somewhere’. Usually, this can trigger a search for answers to the unknown. As we look for answers to our questions, we find more questions!
What is the soul?
Where does it go?
How does the soul come to inhabit the human body?
Can our soul inhabit bodies from other planets?
These are all questions of a spiritual seeker, even if they don’t go by this label. A spiritual awakening is literally waking up to a different reality from what you’ve known your whole life. For some, this can be frightening. Imagine feeling you’ve been living your entire life like one big lie! Your early childhood influences and subsequent life experiences will form the basis of how you may respond to a spiritual awakening.
Other ways people may experience a spiritual awakening is via a psychic or mediumship reading or a turning point in life, such as illness or divorce. Even childbirth can trigger a spiritual awakening. At other times, it is a mass awakening, just like we’ve seen during the last few years. So many people started realising not everything is as it seems, and it caused MANY people to awaken at the same time and start searching for answers because ‘something’ sure as heck didn’t feel right! I’ve never seen more people interested in learning about psychic and mediumship development. It’s safe to say I have several students whose awakening was triggered by the current global climate.
So, can we trigger our spiritual awakening?
Yes, we can! A spiritual awakening may feel like a little seed of knowledge burning within you. You start searching and meditating and may begin noticing number synchronicities and other synchronicities. These are all divine signs something is happening around you. Synchronicity starts increasing, and suddenly, you feel what it’s like to be in a flow state instead of resisting. Yes, humans can resist a spiritual awakening too! Once you wake up, though, it is hard to go back to ‘sleep’. You can try sticking your head back in the sand, but you’ll figure out pretty quickly it isn’t working when shit keeps hitting the fan in your life!
My first spiritual awakening had many layers, as awakenings typically do. I had a mediumship reading where my brother, who, at the time, had passed ten years ago, came through. It blew my mind that this woman I spoke to on the phone knew so much detail about my brother. It changed my reality forever, and I remember being so ecstatic that I would see my brother again one day when I passed over! Before this reading, I noticed synchronicities increasing around me. ‘Something’ was happening, but I wasn’t sure what! I suddenly became interested in psychics and mediums and researched the hell out of them. I must admit, I was nervous that a medium would know everything about me, but pleased to know it doesn’t work like that!
How does a spiritual awakening feel? The experience differs for everyone. For me, it was a feeling of sheer exhilaration. Suddenly, everything started making sense, and all the dots connected! I felt a lightness in my body that I hadn’t felt in a long time.
Having a spiritual awakening doesn’t mean you become enlightened overnight. It can mean quite the opposite. It can feel like everything is falling apart instead of falling together. If we open ourselves up to the divine through spiritual seeking, we can trigger spiritual awakenings. I don’t believe we only go through one awakening in our lifetime, but many awakenings as we continue seeking and expanding our spiritual practice—and learn to understand ourselves more deeply, alongside our place on Earth and in our cosmos.
We are more divine than we think!
