My idea of abundance is a combination of mindset, spending, saving, investing and dreaming. The first four are self-explanatory, but the last one – dreaming – has more to unpack. I agree with Zig Ziglar, who said, “If you can dream it, you can achieve it.”
I believe that abundance starts with a dream of a better life and that it is brought to fruition by taking steps to get there.
My definition of being rich is “when you have no debt, and you have enough money to live your best lifestyle.”
My definition of abundance is “when you have the life you dream of and the money to fund it.”
If my definition of being rich and being abundant resonates with you, then use them. If they don’t, then use whatever resonates with you. Being abundant and rich means different things to everyone.
Some people have a dream but aren’t prepared to do the work to get there, and therefore, they get stuck in their current situation. They blame the dream. It is not the fault of the dream, though. They must also take steps to achieve their dream.
I’d love to take you through some quick exercises that get to the heart of the matter, our money mindset. This is a sticking point for most of us, and it helps to understand the root of the issue so you can take steps to manifest abundance in your life.
Exercise One: What does Money mean to you?
Think about the word money. What immediately comes to mind? Write down your initial thoughts. There are no right or wrong answers. Write down as many as you can. You should have at least twenty if you have really dug deep.
Exercise Two: How do you feel about Money?
Sit or lie down so that you are comfortable. Relax your whole body.
Close your eyes and think about Money. What’s the first thing that comes to mind? Is it that you don’t have enough, will never have enough, or that Money is evil? Anything like that shows that you have a negative money mindset.
Exercise Three: Where did those beliefs come from?
Let’s figure out where your negative money beliefs have come from. Find a quiet spot where you won’t be disturbed for a few minutes and get comfortable. Relax your mind and body. Really relax, as if you are drifting off to sleep. Ask yourself, “Where did my money beliefs come from?” Whatever event pops into your head will be correct.
Exercise Four: Release fear and being stuck
Close your eyes again and breathe deeply until your whole body is relaxed. Once you are relaxed, think about Money. What does your body do? Does it tense up? Is there fear in your body?
Completely relax your body and release the fear. Then imagine the energy of Money freely running through and out of your body. If there is one part of your body where the energy isn’t freely running through and out of your body, then that part is blocked. Try to relax it and keep imagining the energy running through that part of your body until it is unblocked and the money energy flows easily.
In summary
Like any new habit, it’s important to run these series of exercises for 5 minutes every day until the energy runs freely and then do it as frequently as feels good. It can take a little while to clear your body and have the energy flowing freely. Once you clear the fear, you can welcome in positive energy and thoughts about Money, which in turn will attract that abundance you are seeking in life.
Feelings of unworthiness of wealth or abundance often go hand in hand with a negative mindset around wealth and abundance. Everyone is worthy of wealth and abundance. Everyone, including you, is worthy of an abundant life.
It doesn’t matter how fanciful your dream is. It may be to retire at forty. That’s fine. It may be to only work two or three days per week and spend the rest of the time with your young children. Don’t limit yourself here…. Dream Big!
