Everyone has experienced both fear and resistance. But how do you distinguish between both fears when they work so closely together? They often mesh so seamlessly into each other that it is hard to know which of the two is occurring.
There are two types of fear. The first one is what is known as ‘real fear.’ It is a real-life threatening fear, such as being chased by a lion or someone intending to harm you. The second is fear that ‘feels’ life-threatening but is not, such as the uncertainty of your future or failing in a business/exam/relationship.
Fear is an emotion that arises when you perceive a danger or threat. Your energetic vibration and whole body will respond whether the threat is real or not. When this occurs, you will experience psychological and behavioural changes. Energetically, your vibrations become one of powerlessness and helplessness.
What if the fear is immobilizing you?
To be immobilized by the fight, flight or freeze of a real-life threatening situation is different to other fears where your life is not at risk or under any real threat of harm. This is where resistance makes its appearance.
Resistance is what immobilizes you. It creates a flurry of thoughts in your mind. You are trying to work everything out and get caught in a loop, either making excuses or asking yourself endless questions, where action ceases altogether.
Fear limits your mind, but that does not stop your mind from getting creative in conjuring up thoughts, ways of behaving, procrastination and obstacles disguised as fears. This is where resistance becomes the force that prevents you from doing your work.
If that wasn’t bad enough, not only do you have your fears, but you are also exposed to fears every day on the news. This creates more fear and a heightened sense of feeling unsafe in the world. A perfect example of this is the pandemic.
On a global scale, the pandemic created a fear of getting sick for an exceptionally large part of the population. This, like all fears, is laced with stress and worry, lowering the immune system. Being scared depletes you physically and energetically and your ability to see the positive in yourself, including your lifeforce energy. So, it is of utmost importance to strengthen your mind and body and be in your heart space to strengthen your auric field.
We have all heard the saying, ‘Feel the fear and do it anyway.’ While I love this saying and believe it is important to act when fear is felt, it is also imperative to get to the core issue of why you have certain fears so that they do not repeatedly stop you in your tracks.
Suppose you are unaware of why you are afraid and resistant to certain ventures. In that case, you may repeat those patterns throughout your life without understanding why. While acting on your fears is a movement forward, knowing ‘why’ generates a more permanent change. Being able to address, identify, and heal the past experiences that have created this behaviour is where true empowerment lies.
Healing is all about dealing with your emotions and behaviours that keep you stuck and do not serve you. It is about helping you move forward with positive change and transformation so that you evolve to live out your potential. Resistance to healing and acting on your fears will impede this growth.
Fear is an inevitable part of your growth. So, if you want to evolve, discovering and embracing your fears reduces the probability of them interfering and derailing all your efforts. This is especially important with new endeavours as they require you to unlearn old habits and patterns and create new ones, a reprogram of yourself if you will.
These are all points I address with my clients in their healing sessions. The fears and resistances are vast and many. Some of the most common are; to change, judgement, failure, unknown future, rejection, love, unsafe territory, and letting go. Fear is also a lack of trust in yourself. Because if you trust in your ability to do the things you fear, you will not be afraid. You would maybe experience some nerves because you want to perform well but not fear.
Addressing your fears allows you to heal and let go of the experiences that created them. Also, understanding that fear indicates what you must do and that the more resistant you are to a venture or calling, the more important it is to your soul’s growth. This creates space for growth and the opportunity to make conscious changes in your behaviour and build new belief systems. Learning to use fear as a tool for growth and expansion is advantageous. It encourages you to continue building self-trust and make confident choices in your movement forward.
This profound inner work highly reduces those fears of hijacking your behaviours in the future. Healing and moving through them with conscious awareness and taking action from that sovereign state cultivates strength and resilience.
Building and maintaining a solid spiritual connection helps keep balance in your mind, body and soul. It builds a stronger energy field to deal with the stresses that your body and mind go through when in a state of fear and resistance.
It is of great significance to counteract all your negative fear and resistant infused thoughts and feelings with more positive thoughts about yourself and your life. Reminding yourself of what fear is really communicating to you and looking at the blessings that will enrich your life by taking action to surpass it. Spirituality and love are the opposite of fear and are powerful ways to curb all negative thoughts. The more you love and trust who you are and the good things in your life, the more you attract this to yourself and into your life.
Feel the fear, heal and do it in an empowered way.
