By definition, movement is either an act of moving or a change or development. Let’s combine both and kickstart this space with ways to make every movement count for your mind and body. Be sure to seek advice from your healthcare provider or fully qualified trainer before attempting any new physical activities.
Finding Your Fluidity
Movement is one of the best ways to get out of your head and into your body. Your energy and the vibration you resonate with can and will alter with movement. Raising your vibration means attracting equal vibration into your life and higher vibration equals more positivity, love and growth. Going into your body and your heart can offer space for you to connect with your deep wisdom, and your intuition, becoming more aware of what is happening in the here and now.
The definition of fluidity is the ability of a substance to flow easily, to move with elegance and grace and we humans have up to 60% water in our bodies. According to Mitchell and others (1945), the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are 31% water.
Exercise and movement can seem hard when our wondering, unsteady thoughts pull us into past dramas, and future anxiety and never really allow us to be in our moment. Our minds are the obstacles that prevent us from raising our vibration and utilising movement to do so! We have thousands of distractions in our every day, from smartphones and tech to family and friends and the never-ending to-do list that we keep thinking takes precedence to our own wellbeing. This moment now is the moment we all can start prioritising movement, which will allow us to be fluid and that very fluidity will seep into the
darkest crevices of our over-controlled, stressful lives. Let’s raise our vibration starting on this day.
Movement is not limited to dance, however, that is an exceptional way to express yourself, you can also try movement (Vinyasa) yoga, jumping up and down and letting go of your inhibitions, throwing your arms around, and shaking it all off. Where movement like yoga is perhaps more mindful than other forms, is because it helps you connect to your breath and become aware of the workings of your muscles and where they contract and flow from one asana (pose) to the next. Have you ever heard of singing bowls? They work through the vibration of sound travelling around the bowl after it has been knocked. When you hold the edge of your bowl with your fingers, the force and pressure prevent the bowl from “singing” with vibration, the vibration is not able to pass through and around it. This same action takes place in the human body when you tense your muscles. If the human body in a standing position vibrates on average at 7.5 Hz, then imagine what happens to that frequency when your muscles become tense and rigid from stress, inactivity and not prioritising free movement. It simply is not possible for energy to flow and the vibration of the human body cannot find its fluidity.
What are the steps we can take to prioritise our movement?
Firstly, get rid of all distractions! Turn that phone on to do-not-disturb and pump out some tunes that really resonate with the pleasure centre in your mind. Music is an amazing tool for motivation because it helps to release endorphins and dopamine, travelling throughout the body, instantly raising your vibration. You may then do a full body scan with your eyes closed, checking in with yourself, connecting to your breath and practising a three (3) part breathwork tool.
Three-Part Breathwork:
1 – Inhaling through your nose, feeling the breath come down, pushing out through your belly button, then expanding your rib cage, followed lastly with the slight raise of your shoulders. As you exhale feel your shoulders relax down away from your ears, rib cage drawing in like a hug around your inner self and finishing with the drawing in of your belly button to spine, expelling the last of the stale air trapped in the bottom of your lungs.
2 – After that, it’s time for you to get creative! Want to start with a gentle neck rotation and shoulder stretch to loosen up? Perfect! You could try adding in a hoola hoop motion, rolling your hips and your head at the same time like a beautiful twisted spinal wave and letting your breath guide you as you inhale, opening up your chest and expanding out through your collar bones and exhaling as you round your spine over and your chin meets your chest.
3 – Whatever your movement includes, let go of agenda. Let go of time and perception and find your fluidity. Do what feels good for you and tap into that space where joy grows and flourishes from, and then carry that throughout your day. Find your fluidity for you, because you deserve it.
