We cannot avoid challenges in life. We all face them at different times. We face more minor challenges daily, and sometimes we encounter immense, serious challenges that threaten our mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. You may think that these challenges and the frustration, anxiety, and stress they cause are normal, even unavoidable, parts of life. However, there are ways
to meet the challenges in our life with ease and grace. The first step is knowing how.
When we feel that we cannot rise to and overcome the challenges we face, whether big or small, it can make us doubt ourselves and rob us of our energy. We can get drawn into a negative, defeatist attitude where we start to believe that nothing ever works out the way we want it, and we blame ourselves and others. This is a disempowering state to be in, and it makes it impossible to employ all the tools and skills we already have to help us be more graceful in adversity.
The pressure we put on ourselves and the pressure we feel from the outside world can give us an unhealthy concept of what it means to be successful and happy. Many of us move through our days with a list of jobs we need to do, and if we don’t, we can feel like we have failed. Having a belief that you are failing can make it seem like life is one big challenge, and you are at risk of losing sight of what’s important: the ability to slow down and enjoy the moment. Worrying and feeling bad about yourself will mean that you won’t have the positive energy to understand, accept, face, and overcome all you encounter.
Learning how to slow down and stop rushing through your day helps you live your life with conscious intention. When we choose to be present moment to moment, we slow ourselves down and nurture our spiritual side. Doing this increases our energy and positive well-being, giving us the strength to move through life’s challenges and trust that things will work out the way they are meant to.
Challenges are not inherently bad or something to always avoid because we do most of our self-growth through the way we overcome challenges. When we choose to meet our challenges head-on, and with an open mind and heart, we will always discover an important lesson to learn, and we can move through the challenge by forming a better understanding of ourselves and our life.
When faced with challenges, it can be helpful to have a strategy that helps you deal with and overcome your difficulties. When we know how to deal with challenges, even unexpected ones, we feel more confident and secure within ourselves, and we can rise to every challenge successfully.
Here are a few tips for meeting any challenge with ease and grace:
Stop worrying: Worrying only does harm because it creates stress and anxiety in your mind and heart. The best way to stop worrying is to focus on your breathing consciously. Slow, steady breathing can bring you back into your centre and help your mind focus on the action(s) you need to take.
Focus on your goals: Do you have a clear idea of what you want? Having a picture of the path we choose to walk down helps us stay focused on what we are working towards. When you have a goal, it makes it easier to tackle challenges.
Visualise: To overcome a challenge with ease and grace, you need to see and understand how you can resolve the challenge. Visualise the resources and help you need to overcome your obstacles and let go of your expectations.
Trust: When we put our faith and trust in the outcome, we trust that everything will work out exactly as it should. Sometimes we try to control everything, and it causes us more pain and frustration. Practising trust and acceptance helps us live with more ease and grace.
Reflect: Look back over the past year and consider what you have already faced and overcome. It can be easy to beat ourselves up and think that we aren’t strong or graceful. Reflecting on everything you have already achieved will amaze you, and it will give you the energy you need to keep going.
For those of us who use avoidance or distraction when it comes to challenges, you already know that this can be a stressful and ineffective way to deal with them. Practising some of the skills I’ve mentioned will lessen the panic and chaos that can feel like the hallmarks of challenges. Learning healthy ways to face challenges is one of the kindest and most helpful things you can do for yourself.
