Did you know that we have all developed and inherited archetypes from our experiences, environment, and ancestry? Before I continue, let me give you a little bit of background on the subject.
Archetype is a word that is used widely in spirituality and psychology. An archetype is a very typical example of a certain person or thing. Archetypes are universal patterns of people, behaviours, and personalities that play a role in influencing human behaviours.
The concept of archetypes was conceived by Swiss psychoanalyst Carl Jung (1875-1961). Jung proposed the theory that archetypes are part of the collective unconscious which suggests that they are archaic forms of innate human knowledge passed down from our ancestors. Jung believed that the collective unconscious is a form of psychological inheritance that contains all the knowledge and experiences that humans share as a species.
Whilst Jung wrote about the twelve main archetypes, they are not static or fixed. Many different archetypes may overlap and combine, creating new archetypes, and over the years that is exactly what has occurred. Therefore, throughout this article, I will be referencing the archetypes that I use in Forensic Healing.
In Forensic Healing, I always get an archetype at the beginning of the session, and it is astounding how accurate it is about whatever my client is working through.
For example, with one client, the archetype that came up was ‘The Disconnected.’ Together with some other information and an age where that certain trauma occurred, it tied in directly with it all. This client had lost a grandparent and experienced disfunction in the family unit, therefore becoming disconnected on many levels. When reflecting on his current situation, although different from his childhood, he felt the same disconnection and was behaving the same as when he was a child, withdrawing and feeling alone.
There are many different archetypes, too many to name them all, but I will share a few of the most common ones most people experience.
Common archetypes:
- The Victim – This is a person who feels like an underdog, disadvantaged, and has unfair things happen to them.
- The Martyr – This is a person who sacrifices, is a giver, suffers and struggles. This is quite common among women/mothers.
- The Outcast – This is a person who experiences feeling different, and unstable, gets sneered at, and is rejected.
- The Disconnected– This is a person who feels alone, and different, and withdraws from people.
You will have many different archetypes throughout your life. They will not only be developed through trauma and your environment. Many will also be through learned behaviours in childhood.
For example, let us look at ‘The Martyr.’ A girl who has a mother that constantly gives to her family and others even if it means sacrificing her own needs and time. A mother who gives so much then suffers and struggles because she has nothing left for herself. There is a high chance that the girl may develop the same archetype, which will affect her future relationships and family.
A young girl who is brought up with a mother who is seen as an authority figure, who is stern and powerful may develop ‘The Father’ archetype. The mother may have this archetype because her father raised her or because she subconsciously did not want to be like her mother.
As you can see it can be quite intricate and complex, just as some cases are clear, and black and white.
Once archetypes are learned or developed through your environment and experiences, you will have emotions and behaviours tied to them. If you had ‘The Outcast’ archetype as a child, whenever you feel the emotions of being different and rejected you will go into the same behaviour regardless of the scenario in which you experience it.
In Forensic Healing, the same archetype can come up repeatedly regardless of the situation the person is addressing and healing. Why? Because it becomes a pattern, and it is important to heal yourself to be able to break these archetypal patterns.
Benefits of working with archetypes in healing sessions:
- You develop awareness and understanding of yourself and others at a deeper level.
- You can have growth in critical areas of your life.
- You feel more connected to yourself, others, and life in general.
- It provides you with a wealth of knowledge and wisdom.
- You can discover suppressed gifts buried within your unconscious.
- You can heal old traumas and wounds.
- You gain access to your soul or Higher Self.
- Archetypes aid and influence your mental, emotional, and spiritual growth and healing as human beings.
The abovementioned benefits are only scratching the surface of the positive impact working with archetypes can have in your life.
‘Archetypes are like spiritual and energetic filters. They open you to certain experiences and close you to others. We see and think and experience life through its archetypal patterns.’ ~ Rhys Thomas ~
Being aware of the different archetypes can assist you tremendously and embark you on a journey of self-discovery and inner work.
In Forensic Healing sessions when working with archetypes and healing parts of yourself you access universal energies that help you shift your vibration and shift you out of dark places. You can find your dominant archetypes hidden within your behaviours, whilst discovering your greatest strengths and biggest weaknesses by looking at the light attributes and shadow attributes of each archetype and working them to your advantage.
You will discover new things about yourself, heal, and begin to embody the empowering parts of yourself.
When you begin to break down all the different bits of information accessed in energy healing modalities such as Forensic Healing, you realize how crucial it all is.
Behaviours, patterns, environment, and the human psyche are extremely overlapping and complex but the more we arm ourselves with knowledge and understanding the more tools we accumulate in our spiritual arsenal to connect deeper to ourselves, heal, and face life’s challenges.
