Authenticity has become somewhat of a buzzword lately, and for good reason. Not only has authenticity been recently marked as the highest frequency (reportedly 400x higher than Love!) – but we’ve also entered an era where it’s becoming almost impossible to be anything other than our true, authentic selves. We are being presented with truths so glaringly obvious, we cannot pretend not to know, see or feel any longer. We are becoming attuned to energy more than ever before. The ‘gifts’ once thought to be reserved for energy healers and psychics are now being remembered by people from all walks of life, in all different careers and experiences.
These are exciting times! As we start to tune in more to those around us, sensing and feeling more, we are quite literally running out of places to hide. Therefore, authenticity is not simply a ‘nice idea’ – it’s a necessity. A requirement. It is a pathway we must continue to walk and discover our unique direction within, every single day.
The dictionary defines the word Authentic as: “of undisputed origin and not a copy; genuine.” I have to say, I love this description – when we are our true authentic selves, we are indeed not a copy! We are unique in only the way we can be. This is exactly the reason why what works for one person, simply won’t work for another. Even if they do all the same things, wear all the same clothes, say all the same words, study all the same literature. One cannot completely and identically replicate another. How wonderful that we all get to be one of one!
Embracing this journey is one of the greatest gifts we can ever give ourselves as humans. To really take the time to be present with, get to know, understand and fall in love with our true authentic selves. When we are willing to answer questions such as:
Who am I really?
What are the things that deeply move or inspire me?
What am I most afraid for someone to know about me?
Who am I in my most uninhibited expression?
How do I express myself when there’s no agenda, expectation or judgment? (Hint: these only ever come from ourselves anyway.)
Authenticity is not about being different for the sake of being different. We can tell the difference between someone who is trying hard to be ‘original’ by being wildly eccentric and someone who genuinely IS eccentric at the core of their being.
Authenticity is not about trying to be vulnerable through emotions. There’s sitting with a friend and being able to bare your naked soul and talk about what’s really happening for you…. Vs being overly emotional and dramatic for attention.
Authenticity is about allowing yourself to be yourself. No questioning, no overthinking, no filtering. It’s about taking off the masks. Being the same person at the supermarket as you are with a client or colleague.
Most of all, it’s about letting your weirdness shine! Think about the version of you when you’re with THAT friend. The one where you can talk about anything and everything – and likely say things such as “Omg if there was someone recording us right now, people would think we’re totally crazy!”
THIS is the version of you we want and need to see. We want to feel, hear and LOVE you. The true you, exactly as you are in your perfect imperfection. We are all weird and wonderful in our own ways, and I’m not saying you should talk to your boss in the same way you talk to your lover… but it’s worth giving some thought to some of the ways you might be filtering yourself and robbing the world of your unique, wildly wonderful and very sacred, authentic self expression.
