What would happen if you stopped hiding yourself? If you let yourself take up all the space you need? Imagine ignoring all those “too much” labels you’ve felt people have slapped on you. Imagine expressing your true self—the one that’s sometimes loud, occasionally messy, wildly daring, and endlessly you. This is your story, your chapter, and you can be everything you want to be.
So why shrink to make others comfortable when you were born to be so much more? It isn’t anyone else’s place to dictate who you should or could be. The world needs your medicine, which means it needs you to show up as your bold, daring and beautiful self. With all the quirks and strengths that make you, you. So, rather than toning them down and putting yourself last, it’s time to turn the volume up. So, take that dream that feels a little too big, and is seen as a little “too much” and claim it as yours—let go of worrying what others think. You are none of their business.
No matter how much you try to fit into others’ expectations, there will always be someone who feels uncomfortable with your light, how much space you take up, or how you choose to live your life. But that discomfort has nothing to do with you and everything to do with how they see themselves. Releasing yourself from the need to fit into someone else’s perception of who you should be will free up your energy for something far better—authentic self-expression.
So, stop labelling your quirks as odd or embarrassing, and instead, celebrate them. Write down the things that make you feel “too much” or different. Look at them, acknowledge them, and realise these are some of your best assets. From your sense of humour, full sleeve tattoos, to your love for vibrant colours or weird interests—whatever they are, stop hiding them! The world needs more authenticity. The world needs more YOU.
I get it though, the feeling of needing to tone ourselves down. Of silencing ourselves, so we don’t stand out. But practice speaking your truth more often. Make your opinions known, share your unique perspective, and don’t apologise for it. Let you be you! If you’re passionate about certain issues or subjects, let that passion be visible. Start small if you feel confronted—perhaps sharing a thought on social media or expressing an opinion in a conversation.
Do you want to start a business, write a book, or make a career change? Act on it. Get comfortable with your dreams and their size. Bit by bit, your voice, your will, your courage to be yourself will grow stronger as you learn to silence the opinions others have about you, out.
We don’t need someone else’s approval, only our own, and that’s the approval that matters most.
So, walk into spaces like you belong there, because you do. Stand tall, hold your head high, and make eye contact. Carry yourself with pride, even if you don’t fully feel it yet. Practice this in different settings—meetings, social gatherings, or even at the grocery store. Soon, it’ll become second nature. Your physical presence is a powerful way to express that you’re here and taking up the space that’s yours.
As you begin embracing your full self and taking up the space you need, acknowledge your efforts and celebrate yourself. It is a radical act of self-love and confidence that will motivate you to keep showing up authentically. Where you get to be the bold, beautiful, powerful author of your own life.
So don’t hold back. The world needs more “too much,” more colour, more truth, and more people who aren’t afraid to be extraordinary. That means you. And you’ve always been enough. Now, you’re just letting the world see it too.
