It was Easter 2005 when I received the devastating news presented to me by the oncologist that I only had 6 months to live with a diagnosis of Stage IV metastasized melanoma. My head was spinning with disbelief. My family were in tears, and they were all in a state of shock. I found myself comforting everyone and not believing the diagnosis – how could I be dying? That was not in my plans at all!
Following the initial diagnosis, the next step was for me to go through more tests, which led to feeling unbelievably traumatised. I kept telling myself that ‘I needed to get a hold of myself’ so I would not succumb to this death sentence. I knew I had to get away from all the medical negativities. What was the point in all these tests and all the trauma if I was going to die in the eyes of those running these tests? It certainly was not going to save my life and did not make sense to me.
On the last day of the tests, I went home and decided I was not going to let this diagnosis be true. I first needed to use my mind to get rid of the subliminal message that I was going to die. I spent several hours writing affirmations and meditating to bring myself back into a state of empowerment. Having always been a great believer in the power of ‘Food as Medicine’ and the importance of gut health I created a program that was to heal my body within five months by walking in wellness, not my sickness. I refused to lie down and die.
I lived in faith instead of fear, intuitively understanding that the body can heal itself given the right tools.
I believe in the future, global health care will be elevated to a higher platform and evolve from a focus on sickness towards holistic wellness. Profit should not overpower the health and well-being of those we love. Most people who are faced with the crisis of cancer or other diagnosed chronic illnesses give up, break down and retreat into themselves. Most live in fear and take a damaging, what they erroneously believe to be a “healing” approach that has been ingrained in them due to misguided information.
We are all searching for better health, happiness, and longevity, but it often takes a wake-up call to set us on the right path to achieving these goals. It is a call to change our direction in life, to avoid an early death, and to start enjoying vibrant health and well-being, leaving the fear of cancer behind us.
As a cancer survivor, my passion and mission over the past 19 years has been to educate our global community on the principles of prevention and survival from cancer and lifestyle-created chronic illnesses.
“The ultimate responsibility for good health is not found in our modern healthcare system, but rather, it is each individual’s responsibility to equip themselves with information to overcome the greatest epidemic – that of degenerative diseases like cancer, and to a longer, more filling life.” Graham Taylor ND BHSc.
