It is easy to get caught up in our self-created expectations and perhaps also in the reality that we exist in, in our minds. A culture of fast-paced living, adding more and more to our ever-growing, never-shrinking, to-do lists, means that we are always ‘on’, and that our minds are usually racing. There are many habits and systems that can be implemented, that ease our mental load and the strain of having to remember all of the things. There is also an alternative mindset to the ‘always needing more’ approach, a different option.
This mindset is more of a collaborative approach and allows us to follow the framework that nature has so beautifully, modelled for us, and create our adaption from this. To see our timeline as seasons. To encourage speeding up, and also embrace slowing down. All while being attuned to your present season, and finding your version of balance, within this. We can do this, by creating an inner culture of flexibility, towards ourselves, and those around us.
If you choose, the timeline of life can be viewed as a book, with different chapters, and within each chapter there are pages, and within each page, there are paragraphs, etc. Your life is an ever-evolving story, laced with change and progress as well as stillness and intermission. There are chapters that require you to evolve quickly and move with speed, while there are others that thrive at a slower pace, with fewer happenings and more reflection.
There is importance and necessity, to be present in all chapters and during all seasons. To be mentally aware of where you are at, in the present time. If you were to identify that you are in a season, with a fast-paced nature, connect with that, allow that to fuel you. When you are in alignment with the goals, that require actions, at such speed, you will be naturally propelled. When you can feel a season of rest, and introversion, that sway you in the direction of reflection and calm, be mindful of this and take the opportunity to recharge.
We also experience times when things feel turbulent and others where there is a pause in happenings and an increase in stillness. By tuning in to these internal seasons, we can appreciate that all experiences are inclusive. That everything is meant to be, and even when it may not feel it, you are in the right place, at the right time.
Allow yourself and others, a culture of flexibility. To respect the individual needs of ourselves and of those around us. When we model flexibility to others, it is also of service to ourselves.
HOW CAN WE MODEL AND EMBRACE A CULTURE OF FLEXIBILITY?
- Embrace the unexpected things that arise To do this requires us to release and let go of our internal expectations, and desired timelines. When the unexpected presents itself, find your practice, that allows you to truly trust and feel. Know that all is working out for you.
- Set realistic expectations and boundaries If we micromanage and control all aspects of our lives, including our future, where is the room for magic? For the things that are even better than what we could dream of, happening for us? Control the controllable, and by setting yourself timely and realistic expectations and boundaries, this allows wriggle room for flexibility (and delightful detours).
- Communicate openly and honestly When embracing a culture of flexibility, we are more attuned to our needs and aware of where we are presently positioned. Be a fierce protector of what you need, and be open with your communication around this. By modelling effective communication and advocating for yourself, you allow those around you to do the same.
Creating a culture and mindset of flexibility encourages us to drop into flow more often, and enjoy each moment, and season/chapter of life fully. We can regulate our emotions when they aren’t tied up in self-created expectations. Connect with others and meet them where they are and be returned the same grace. Ultimately, we can enjoy life, improve our overall well-being, and live with a heart full of trust and loving energy. Are you ready to loosen the reigns
and open yourself up to the magic and joy that life has to offer.
